Safe checks for an AC that stopped cooling
Thermostat: select cooling, set the target below room temperature and replace weak batteries. Make sure a schedule or smart-home automation has not overridden the setting.
Filter and vents: replace a visibly clogged filter and open supply and return grilles. Restricted airflow can freeze the indoor coil. Do not run the compressor while the coil is iced.
Disconnect and breakers: check that the outdoor disconnect has not been switched off and inspect breakers once. Stop after a repeated trip. Never open a capacitor or electrical compartment; capacitors can retain a dangerous charge with power removed.
